Meet Dr. Hunter Vincent, Medical Advisor at Neura Health

Tell us a little about your background/training.

My journey into medicine began as an undergraduate student at UC Davis, where I received my degree in Exercise Biology while playing division 1 soccer. Following my time at UC Davis, i started a job as an exercise specialist for a multidisciplinary weight loss program at Microsoft. I worked with a team of physicians, psychologists, nutritionists and physical therapists to provide an interdisciplinary approach to managing obesity and metabolic syndrome. This experience and the team approach to patient care was a motivating factor in my pursuit of a career in medicine. I would complete my medical education at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, and perform my residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at UC Davis. I would ultimately perform another year of training with a fellowship in Pain Medicine at the UCLA/VA program.

Tell us about why you chose pain management specifically - what interested you most about this field?

My decision to pursue Pain Medicine is rooted in my passion for utilizing exercise and health to combat disease. It is my belief that creating healthy lifestyle habits is a great step in helping patients be an advocate for their overall health and their journey out of pain. Pain is an entirely subjective experience, unique to each individual. Treating an individual suffering from pain requires a blend of mental, physical, and clinical resources to discover the solution for each patient. I am drawn to the team approach of care, whether that is the patient-physician team or a team of medical providers. Treating patients suffering from pain is an opportunity to help someone overcome an immense obstacle in their life and become the best version of themselves. Being a part of this process is inspiring.

What is especially fascinating about telehealth to you?

Telehealth is a fascinating addition to mainstream healthcare because it provides an added layer of connectivity with patients. I find that telehealth can in some ways be more personal, in that the physician is operating within in the patient’s space in some respect, rather than a traditional physician office setting. I find that this can sometimes create a more relaxed environment for patients.

What have been the things you are most proud of in your career?

I’m most proud of taking part in ventures such as Neura Health, which continues to innovate and create new opportunities for patient care.

What have you learned from your patients that have helped you become a better doctor?

How to listen.

What are you most excited about regarding your role at Neura?
