Meet Dr. Peter McAllister, Medical Advisor at Neura Health

Tell us a little about your background/training.

I grew up in New York City and Connecticut, and trained in Virginia and London. My fellowship training was in movement disorders and neuromuscular disease - I came a bit late to headache medicine! I am board-certified in both neurology and headache medicine.

I am the Co-founder and Medical Director of the New England Institute for Neurology and Headache, and Chief Medical Officer of New England Institute for Clinical Research and Ki Clinical Research in Stamford, Connecticut. I hold clinical appointments at both Yale University School of Medicine and the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.

Tell us why you chose neurology specifically - what interested you most about this field?

Simple. The brain is the coolest organ! Full stop.

What is especially fascinating about headache disorders?

I stumbled into Headache Medicine because of my Botox research studies.  But I found treating migraine patients incredibly rewarding.

What have been the things you are most proud of in your career?

I’ve been a principal investigator on over 300 studies - helping to get new meds to patients who need them. I’ve also published over 100 articles, book chapters, posters and abstracts.

What have you learned from your patients that have helped you become a better doctor?

Humility. I learn from my patients daily.

What are you most excited about regarding your role at Neura?

Allowing persons with migraine who may have difficulty accessing headache specialists to have a place in the form of an app, that takes care of them.
