Meet Diana Bannister, Epilepsy Nurse Practitioner at Neura Health

Tell us a little about your background/training.

I grew up in the Permian Basin of Texas and moved to Dallas to work at Baylor University Medical Center in 2000.  I worked in the ICU setting until I transitioned roles when I earned my Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Texas @ Arlington in 2011.

I am board certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and have worked exclusively with neurology patients in an outpatient setting.  My expertise is in the evaluation and treatment of people with epilepsy.

Tell us about why you chose to work in neurology, and specifically, Epilepsy - what interested you most about this field?

In the beginning of my NP career I had the opportunity to work in a busy neurology practice and I jumped at the opportunity to be challenged and learn about the fascinating works of the central nervous system.  I was fortunate to have an epileptologist as my collaborating physician and quickly focused on epilepsy.  I have appreciated the time working with patients and their families.

What have been the things you are most proud of in your career?

I am proud to be in healthcare and have a career that I truly enjoy in a field where I can serve patients well.

What have you learned from your patients that has helped you become a better physician assistant?

How to be a good listener and to take pause and get to know each patient for their individuality.
